Swakopmund Protocol on the Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Expressions of Folklore (Namibia, 2010)

The 2010 Swapokmund Protocol on the Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Expressions of Folklore was developed by the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO). The protocol seeks to establish shared treatment of local knowledge resources across specific African regions. It was created in the absence of intellectual property laws that can accommodate the complexity of local knowledge systems, resources and management strategies. It aims to enhance the management of such resources by historically marginalized peoples. (FYI – original text from Anderson and Woods 2012 or 2013 Howard U Proposal)
