What is Mukurtu and how can I use it for my collection?

Mukurtu is a Content Management System (CMS) that allows Indigenous communities to control access to their cultural heritage materials, and safeguard traditional knowledge and information. There mission statement is:

“Mukurtu (MOOK-oo-too) is a grassroots project aiming to empower communities to manage, share, narrate, and exchange their digital heritage in culturally relevant and ethically-minded ways. We are committed to maintaining an open, community-driven approach to Mukurtu’s continued development. Our first priority is to help build a platform that fosters relationships of respect and trust.” Read more here.

Mukurtu can be used with the TK Labels to facilitate access to your community’s cultural heritage materials both to others within your community and those outside of it.
