At Local Contexts we are committed to facilitating pathways for more respectful and culturally appropriate understanding about accessing and engaging with Indigenous cultural heritage in cultural institutions. We are also aware of the need to understand vital areas of law like copyright and how this might impact projects of language digitization or documentation at a community level. We also want to provide further support around decision making and negotiating with institutions about who holds cultural authority over cultural heritage collections. In these training modules we offer suggestions for further training and education in 5 initial areas. These Training Modules are for communities and institutions. They include lesson plans, worksheets, visual support materials and additional resources. We will continue to add to these modules in the future. If you have a suggestion for a training module that would directly support your community or institution, please contact us. The 5 initial areas for training modules are:
- Indigenous Collections and Copyright for Communities
- Indigenous Collections and Copyright for Institutions
- Agreement Making, MOUs and MOAs
- Governance and Decision-Making
- Digitization of Indigenous Collections
More training modules and resources will be uploaded as we create them – so don’t forget to check back!
