Senior Researcher and Council Secretary

Dr Janette is a descendent of the Te Whānau a Apanui iwi of Aotearoa NZ. As the Senior Researcher she is supporting the Aotearoa NZ Network and Outreach. As the Council Secretary, Dr Janette is responsible for the key admin tasks for governance and operational flow.
Dr Janette recognises the inherent sovereignty that Iwi have over knowledge and data that comes from our people, lands, territories, airspace, and waters. She specialises in supporting Iwi in managing intellectual and cultural property rights and data within information systems through ‘Tagging the World with Trillions of Traditional Knowledge (TK) and Biocultural (BC) Labels.’
Dr Janette obtained her Doctor of Philosophy 2009 from the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Auckland University of Technology (AUT). She has over 32 years experience as an academic in information systems for Indigenous communities.
