Cultural Institution Working Group meeting

The next Local Contexts Cultural Institution Working Group meeting will be held January 14, 19:00 UTC.

This meeting will host a presentation from Emily Johnson and Leomary Rodriguez of Catalyst Dance and their work on the Decolonization Rider. The Decolonization Rider is a powerful tool designed to advance decolonization processes within cultural institutions while protecting artists, their work, and collaborators. In this presentation, the rider’s author Emily Johnson, along with Leomary Rodriguez, will explore how cultural institutions can utilize the rider to initiate and advance necessary decolonization work, creating safer and more justice-centered engagements with artists and communities. They will share research generated from their Decolonization Assessment, which asks: What changes have we seen in the field? What persists as perceived challenges toward decolonization? And what are some brilliant success stories? Participants will gain actionable insights for institutional transformation and learn from documented examples of successful decolonization practices.

The Local Contexts Cultural Institution Working Group (CIWG) brings together group members who work at or with cultural organizations around the world, including museums, libraries, archives, and universities, and who are interested in or using the Local Contexts Notices and Labels.
