Europe & UK Network meeting
The next Europe & UK Network meeting will be held July 20 UTC.
For this meeting, we will host Dr Federica Villa (MUDEC – Museum of Cultures, Milan) as a guest speaker to present a talk, Shared Guardianship as a Response to Indigenous Intellectual Property Concerns in Museums. In this presentation, Federica will draw on her recent doctoral research exploring Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property through the case study of Andean textile collections held at MUDEC. Based on multi-sited ethnographic research with source communities in Peru, the presentation follows a select group of textiles from the Cusco region whose biographies have been traced across different epistemological regimes, from institutionalised heritage back to source communities. It will reflect on Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property, Indigenous Data Sovereignty, and the concept of shared guardianship as an ethical framework for museums. It will explore how museums can foster more equitable relationships with source communities and support new collaborative approaches to the stewardship of Indigenous Traditional Knowledge.
This meeting will be recorded for group members, and available to stream for one month following the presentation. If you are unable to attend but have feedback or questions, please email the outreach team at outreach@localcontexts.org.
Current members of the Network should have an email and calendar invite with connection details. If you are interested in the group, you can read more and submit your interest on our Working Groups and Networks page.
The Local Contexts Europe & UK Network brings together Indigenous community members and citizens, institution and organization staff, and others located in/with connections to Europe and the UK to see how we can together support the momentum and interest for the use of the Local Contexts Labels and Notices in the region.
