Maine Archives & Museums conference

Our Executive Director and Council Chair will be presenting and attending the Maine Archives and Museums annual conference on Wabanaki Homelands in Lewiston, Maine, US, on October 4.

Dr. Stephany RunningHawk Johnson (Oglala Lakota Nation) and James Eric Francis, Sr. (Penobscot Nation) will present “Local Contexts: Supporting Indigenous Cultural Authority and Intellectual Property in Maine Collections,” a session in Block B.

In this presentation, hear about our tools for supporting Indigenous cultural authority and intellectual property. Case studies will focus on examples of Indigenous community and institutional use of Local Contexts in Maine. Presenters will share ideas for best practices and next steps.
