The Membership program is optional for all Indigenous and local communities who are utilizing Local Contexts Labels through a community account on the Local Contexts Hub. Each community account on the Hub has the option to nominate a representative to become a Member.

Hub Account Type

A community account is for Indigenous community entities or representatives. Community entities could include Tribes, Bands, Iwi, Nations, Land Councils, Tribal Historic Preservation Officers, Cultural Departments, Community Centers, Preservation Offices, and Community Archives and Museums. Community accounts customize and apply Traditional Knowledge and Biocultural Labels on behalf of their community.

By becoming a Member, community representatives can participate in the governance of Local Contexts through quarterly meetings and the Council nomination process. The first Council election is expected to take place in 2026.

The Local Contexts Council is responsible for the strategic framework that ensures the organization’s activities reflect its values and drive its mission success. The membership program is a core component of our organization’s governance.

Members are invited to attend quarterly meetings with the Local Contexts Council to provide important input on the governance and direction of Local Contexts. Members are responsible for maintaining their Hub contact information and ensuring their account integrity.

There are no membership fees.
