Who is eligible to become a Member?
Any Indigenous community entities or representatives seeking to customize and apply Traditional Knowledge and Biocultural Labels on behalf of their community. This program is a core component of our work to build inclusive frameworks for managing Indigenous cultural and intellectual property and that support Indigenous data sovereignty.
Why become a Member?
Local Contexts is focused on increasing Indigenous involvement in data governance through the integration of Indigenous values into data systems. Local Contexts offers digital strategies for Indigenous communities through the Labels and Notices.
Member benefits include:
- The opportunity to participate in governance of Local Contexts through Council nominations
- Support for Labels customization and application
- Invitations to contributing Subscribers
What are the responsibilities of Members?
Members must sign the Member Agreement and are responsible for maintaining their Hub contact information and ensuring their account integrity.
Hub Account Type
A community account is for Indigenous community entities or representatives. Community entities could include Tribes, Bands, Iwi, Nations, Land Councils, Tribal Historic Preservation Officers, Cultural Departments, Community Centers, Preservation Offices, and Community Archives and Museums. Community accounts customize and apply Traditional Knowledge and Biocultural Labels on behalf of their community.
Are there Membership fees?
There are no Membership fees. Indigenous organizations that manage collections that require the Notices or platforms that require integration with the API are eligible for a 50% discount on subscriptions and service provider accounts.
