Outreach Coordinator

Amy June Breesman (Eastern Shawnee/mixed settler) joined Local Contexts as Outreach Coordinator in October 2024, to work closely with the Outreach and Development teams to improve understanding, services, and adoption for members and institutions alike in the Local Contexts Hub. She was born and raised on Piscataway Homelands in the Chesapeake Bay region, where she later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in photography. Following a winding road through the arts, the trades, project management, and farming, Amy June later began work as a researcher in the social sciences. In this role, she realized the importance of provenance and attributions for Indigenous data sovereignty for biocultural assets, and ongoing work with crop relatives and wild utilized plants globally.

Currently residing on Kaw and Osage homelands in Lawrence, Kansas, she manages a small seed farm to promote the use of foraged, heirloom, and traditional foods in modern diets while preserving the biodiversity she holds dear. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the rivers and mountains of Turtle Island with her partner and their dog.
