Institutional Repositories and Open Access Community Days
On day one of the Institutional Repositories and Open Access Community Days 2024, Local Contexts team members Dr Janette Hamilton-Pearce (Te Whānau a Apanui) and Ashley Rojas will present a keynote, “Supporting Māori Rights and Interests in Data and Repositories.”
This presentation will focus on introducing the Local Contexts tools for managing, sharing, and supporting Māori rights and interests in data and repositories. Institutional repositories in Aotearoa are not neutral platforms. These platforms take on the colonial policies to archive and promote Māori as the ‘Dying Race’ driven by Issac Featherston since 1856. To counter that narrative, you will learn about the Local Contexts Traditional Knowledge (TK) and Biocultural (BC) Labels and Notices initiative, and how they can be implemented within these repositories.
