Chief of Staff

Dr Janette is a descendent of the Te Whānau a Apanui iwi of Aotearoa New Zealand with she/they pronouns. As the Chief of Staff, Dr Janette is responsible for setting up key functional areas that supports communication and collaboration across the team.

Dr Janette recognises the inherent sovereignty that Indigenous communities have over knowledge and data that comes from our people, lands, territories, airspace and waters. She specialises in supporting Indigenous communities in managing intellectual and cultural property rights and data within information systems through ‘Tagging the World with Traditional Knowledge (TK) and Biocultural (BC) Labels.’

Dr Janette obtained her Doctor of Philosophy 2009 from the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Auckland University of Technology (AUT). She has over 28 years experience as an academic in information systems for Indigenous communities.
