ICH North: Passing On our Musical Heritage
Strategic Advisor Maui Hudson (Whakatōhea) will be presenting a keynote about Local Contexts at an upcoming free webinar.
The webinar, “Music Collections, Ownership and Community Involvement,” will be held on April 10 at 15:00 EET (UTC+2).
Following UNESCO’s Convention for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage (ICH), community participation is essential in any actions related to ICH. Also when it comes to music archives, it is essential to consider how communities are involved in deciding on appropriate use (or non-use) of the collections. However this may often still happen with lacking or incomplete community involvement in top-down processes by the archives or the collectors.
The webinar programme will include a presentation of the project and its aims, and a broader introduction to the concept of ICH. This is followed by examples of how to increase community involvement. In museums, projects on ICH and community involvement have already been implemented, thus we will also hear examples that can help and enhance our work with music collections.
