Natives in Tech Conference 2022

Local Contexts will be part of the two-day virtual Natives in Tech Conference 2022: Developing Sovereignty in Tech. Join us on Saturday, November 5, at 6:30 pm PT.

Programme Lead, Dr. Janette Hamilton-Pearce, and Institution Outreach Manager, Corrie Roe, will share about Local Contexts:

Digital infrastructures are not neutral, but carry and perpetrate the biases of the systems they are within. In order to support Indigenous data sovereignty, interventions or modifications of these systems must occur. The Local Contexts Traditional Knowledge and Biocultural Labels and Notices are digital identifiers that bring Indigenous authority, sovereignty, rights, protocols, and interests into digital infrastructures like museums, libraries, archives, and data repositories.
