Notice in Use: Simon Fraser University

Black text on dark red decorative background: “Notices in use. Simon Fraser University Library Northwest Coast Image Archive.” In the center are two screenshots. In the background, one shows a screenshot of the landing page of the “SFU Digitized Collections, The George and Joanne MacDonald Northwest Coast Image Archive,” which is text with a small image of a close-up of a monumental carving. The second screenshot is on top and shows the Open to Collaborate Notice icon, a black square icon with two hands facing each other, next to the Notice text: “Open to Collaborate. Our institution is committed to the development of new modes of collaboration, engagement, and partnership with Indigenous peoples for the care and stewardship of past and future heritage collections.” At the bottom of the post in black is the Local Contexts logo, a ring made of dots.

An Open to Collaborate Notice is applied to the Northwest Coast Image Archive in Simon Fraser University Library’s Digitized Collections. This collection in the Bill Reid Centre contains images of Northwest Coast First Peoples and is highly visited online.

Here you can see a screenshot from the collection website with the Notice. Unlike TK and BC Labels, Notices are not customized. The Open to Collaborate Notice here reads:

“Our institution is committed to the development of new modes of collaboration, engagement, and partnership with Indigenous peoples for the care and stewardship of past and future heritage collections.”
